Japan’s population is 128 million people, and is ranked as the 10th most populous country in the world. Tokyo is the de facto capital of Japan, and is located as a prefecture. Tokyo is the name for Tokyo and several cities in the prefecture around it. As the largest metropolitan area in the world, Greater Tokyo Area has a population of more than 30 million people.
Where is Japan?
Japan is an island nation in East Asia. It is located at the western end of the Pacific Ocean, east of the Sea of Japan, and adjacent to the People’s Republic of China, Korea and Russia. Japan consists of 6,852 islands. The northernmost islands are in the Sea of Okhotsk, and the southernmost region is a group of small islands in the East China Sea, to the south of Okinawa which is neighboring Taiwan.
The main islands from north to south are Hokkaido, Honshu (largest island), Shikoku, and Kyushu. About 97% of the mainland of Japan is on the four largest islands. Most of the islands in Japan are mountainous, and some of them are volcanoes. The highest mountain in Japan is Mount Fuji, which is a volcano.
Japanese cuisine that has been known in European and American countries such as “sukiyaki” and “sushi”, in recent years japanese food is increasingly known and liked throughout the world.
